The Chapelle Store at Le Village is open on most days and on Market Monday, the second Monday of the month. Vendors take over the store and porches and sell fresh produce, baked goods, homemade jellies, homemade aprons, unique handmade bird houses, chainmail jewelry, children’s clothes, goat milk soap, Acadiana-themed tee shirts, handmade rosaries, antiques, quilts, crochet items & vintage items.

The old Chapelle country store at Le Village started life in 1900 as a typical General Store in Turkey Creek, Louisiana. The Chapelles built it, stocked it and lived on the premises. It was the site of one of the last robberies attempted by Bonnie & Clyde just before they were tracked down and shot to death in Arcadia, Louisiana, about 1933. Mark & Jennifer Seale moved the store to the present site in 1993 and it became a part of the Seale Guesthouse and a popular space for parties, weddings and reunions.

Garde - Soleils (Sun Bonnet) Blue

  • $45.00

The Garde - Soleil (sun bonnet) was popular through many parts of Europe as well as the Acadians who settled South Louisiana. The bonnets were used by ladies and children of all ages. Working in the field or outdoors, the bonnets kept the sun from their face and neck. Raw starch was used to keep the brim stiff. They look great worn or just hanging on the wall. These bonnets are all adjustable. All cotton and washable. Handmade from La Boutique de la Reine (the boutique of the queen, Madam Tulee.)

One-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. $45.00 each.
